EDUCATOR      SINGER

Andrew Ashwin is rapidly becoming one of the most well-known singing teachers in the UK.

His diverse teaching experience encompasses everything from six-year-old beginners to young professionals and other adults, and he has taught in a range of settings, including conservatoires, universities, schools, his home studio, workshops and choirs.

As a professional singer, Andrew has first-hand experience at the highest international level. The intensive demands of the opera stage, which he experienced for more than a decade, inform his teaching hugely, and he addresses all aspects of singing in lessons, including successful technique, vocal health and communication and expression.

Alongside his performance diplomas, Andrew is a qualified teacher, and one of only a handful of singing teachers worldwide to have been admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Schools of Music (FRSM), achieved with Distinction. He is also one the few people in the UK to hold the Certificate of Figure Proficiency with the Estill Voice Training organisation.

Andrew is a member of the teaching staff at the world-renowned Royal Academy of Music, as a singing teacher with the Junior Department. At Junior Academy, he also co-leads Song Class and Vocal Ensemble for first-study singers, and is co-Musical Director of the Chamber Choir.

Andrew teaches singing and co-leads a number of choirs at Leicester Grammar School, as well as devising the overall strategy for singing at the school, alongside the Director of Music. He is also head of singing activities at LGS Stoneygate, which forms part of the Leicester Grammar School Trust. Previous posts include Head of Singing at Repton School, singing tutor at The University of Nottingham, and singing teacher at Uppingham School and Downe House School. Andrew was also a singing teacher with National Children’s Choir of Great Britain.

At his home studio, he teaches children and adults of all abilities, and enjoys helping them reach their full potential across a wide range of vocal styles and genres. A number of singing teachers in the area come to him for vocal coaching. **Please note, Andrew is not currently taking on new students.**

As an ABRSM examiner both nationally and internationally, Andrew knows all there is to know about success in music exams. His experience as an examiner of instrumentalists and singers up to ARSM diploma level is a huge advantage in helping prepare candidates for these exams, as he knows first-hand what examiners are looking for.

Andrew has led many choral workshops, with a particular emphasis on building confidence and singing in a happy, healthy way.

As an accomplished pianist, he often accompanies his singers in exams and concerts, and he is the official accompanist at LGS Stoneygate.
